How you'll feel

You may feel more tired and sick in the first trimester as your body has more of the pregnancy hormone HCG. The severity of symptoms can vary between people and even between pregnancies, so can be difficult to measure, but it is generally accepted that it is more severe when you have more than one baby on board. The good news for mums who are badly affected by morning sickness is that it doesn't last any longer just because you are having twins, and the vast majority can look forward to it reducing in severity after 12 weeks.

By the third trimester, you'll also feel more tired as the load you have to carry increases - not just an extra baby, but an extra placenta and extra amniotic fluid too. The added weight means backache and fatigue are more likely. Your blood pressure will probably be higher too.

Most mums notice the improved monitoring and antenatal care they receive. It can be very reassuring to know that you are being treated a little bit more specially than those with a single pregnancy.
